
Located in Shuiche Town, Xinhua County, Loudi City, Hunan Province, Ziquejie Terraces are one of the most spectacular terrace landscapes in southern China. These mountainside terraces have a history of over 2,000 years and are hailed as "The Stunning Musical Score on Earth".
History and Culture
Historical Origins
The terraces were first built during the Qin and Han dynasties, perfected in the Tang and Song dynasties, and flourished during the Ming and Qing dynasties, with a history spanning over 2,000 years.
They represent an agricultural marvel created jointly by multiple ethnic groups including Miao, Yao, Dong, and Han.
In 2014, they were listed as a World Heritage Irrigation Structure.

Terrace Scenery
Covers a total area of over 80,000 mu (about 5,333 hectares), with a core scenic area of 20,000 mu. The slopes range from 25 to 50 degrees, with the highest elevation at 1,236 meters.
The terraces feature graceful lines that follow the mountain contours, offering different views in each season.

- Yaorenchong: The most concentrated terrace area, shaped like a phoenix spreading its wings
- Jiulongpo: Nine ridges resembling giant dragons winding down
- Baguachong: Terraces arranged in a Bagua (Eight Trigrams) pattern
