Located in Tongdao Dong Autonomous County, Huaihua City, Hunan Province, Wanfo Mountain is a national 4A-level tourist attraction and national scenic area, known as "The First Mountain of Dong Homeland" and "The Green Great Wall".

Overview

Geographical Features

Covers a total area of 168 square kilometers, with the main peak at 635 meters above sea level. It consists of 8 scenic areas, 46 wonderful attractions and over 510 Danxia peak forest formations.

One of the world's largest Danxia peak forest landforms, known as the "Danxia Peak Forest Museum".

Name Origin

Named for its numerous natural Buddha-shaped landscapes that resemble countless Buddhas paying homage when viewed from afar.

Approved as a national scenic area by the State Council in 2010.

Dong Ethnic Culture

The surrounding area is inhabited by Dong people who preserve complete Dong folk customs.

Visitors can enjoy intangible cultural heritage like Dong grand songs and Lusheng dances.

Buddhist Culture

Historically a Buddhist sacred site with several ancient temple ruins remaining.

Traditional temple fair held annually on the 19th day of the 6th lunar month.

Transportation

  • Self-driving: About 2 hours from Huaihua city
  • Public transport: Take tourist shuttle buses from Tongdao County
  • High-speed rail: Take train to Sanjiang South Station, then transfer by bus (about 1 hour)
