Located in Nanhu District, Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, Nanhu Lake is a national 5A-level scenic spot and the birthplace of the Communist Party of China. Covering 5.86 sq km (including 0.58 sq km water area), it comprises Nanhu Lake, Yuehe Historical Block and Meiwan Street, blending revolutionary culture, history and Jiangnan water town charm.

History and Culture

Nanhu Lake witnessed the founding of CPC when the First National Congress concluded on a decorated boat in August 1921. The Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Hall documents this pivotal history.

Dating back to Three Kingdoms period, Nanhu became a renowned scenic spot in Tang Dynasty. During Ming-Qing periods, its unique "islands within lake, lakes within islands" landscape attracted literati, leaving rich cultural heritage.

Main Attractions

The Red Boat

Symbol of CPC's birth, this replica boat moored at Huxin Island's southeast bank allows visitors to witness where "a new era began", serving as important patriotic education site.

Huxin Island

Core scenic spot featuring Misty Rain Tower and Laixu Pavilion. The tower, originally built in Five Dynasties and reconstructed in Qing Dynasty, offers panoramic views, perfect for appreciating "Misty Nanhu" scenery.

Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Hall

Comprehensively exhibits CPC's founding history with over 6,000 artifacts. Its "工"-shaped architecture symbolizes CPC as vanguard of Chinese working class.

Yuehe Historical Block

Well-preserved Ming-Qing architecture complex with crisscrossing canals and ancient bridges. Housing Zongzi Culture Museum and time-honored shops, its dazzling nightlights showcase Jiangnan nightlife.

Jiaxing Zongzi

Geographical indication product, especially Wufangzhai's versions. Premium glutinous rice and fresh fillings wrapped in reed leaves yield savory pork or sweet red bean zongzi, available at old-brand shops.

Nanhu Water Chestnut

Local aquatic plant with crisp, sweet nuts. Eaten raw, stir-fried or made into paste, autumn is harvest season. Nearby restaurants serve seasonal dishes like stir-fried chestnuts.

Wine-marinated Eggs

Traditional delicacy using duck eggs fermented in rice wine lees. Amber egg whites and oily yolks carry rich aroma. Watch production at Yuehe's old workshops.
