History & Culture

Double Dragon Cave's development dates back to Eastern Jin Dynasty (1,600+ years). Tang Dynasty's "Record of Grotto-Heavens" listed it as the "36th Grotto-Heaven". The Wong Tai Sin Temple built during 1102-1106 remains an important Taoist sacred site.

Ming traveler Xu Xiake visited in 1636, documenting cave scenery in his travel notes. During WWII, this area served as Zhejiang's provisional capital, retaining some Republic-era architecture.

Wong Tai Sin culture has widespread influence in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. Annual birthday ceremonies (lunar August 13) attract numerous devotees.
