With rich historical heritage dating back to Neolithic settlements, the area bordered ancient Qi and Lu states during Spring-Autumn period. Confucius' saying "Ascending East Mountain makes Lu appear small" refers to Meng Mountain.
During revolutionary wars, Yimeng Mountains nurtured the great "Yimeng Spirit". Revolutionary leaders like Liu Shaoqi, Chen Yi and Luo Ronghuan operated here, producing heroic figures including "Red Sisters" and "Six Yimeng Sisters".
As a Taoist cultural origin site, Meng Mountain has been sacred since Han Dynasty with numerous Taoist relics. The region also boasts exceptional longevity, with centenarian ratios ranking nationally prominent.
