Located in Xiangcheng District, Xiangyang City, Hubei Province, the Ancient Longzhong Scenic Area is a national 5A-level tourist attraction covering 209 square kilometers (core area 12 km²). This was where Zhuge Liang, the renowned Three Kingdoms statesman and strategist, lived in seclusion during his youth, and the site of the famous "Three Visits to the Thatched Cottage" story. It's hailed as the "Cradle of Wisdom and Origin of Three Kingdoms Strategy".
History and Culture
Longzhong was Zhuge Liang's (181-234 AD) retreat from age 17 to 27, where he studied and farmed. In 207 AD, Liu Bei's "Three Visits" persuaded Zhuge Liang to assist him, resulting in the seminal "Longzhong Plan" that shaped the Three Kingdoms division.
The area preserves numerous Zhuge Liang-related relics. Commemorative structures built since the Western Jin Dynasty (mostly Ming-Qing reconstructions) led to its 1996 designation as a National Key Cultural Heritage Site.
Longzhong represents both Three Kingdoms culture and traditional Chinese reclusive culture, inspiring countless literary works through the ages.
